Halloween Candy Checks and Safe Trick-or-Treating

Halloween safety starts before the first doorbell. Grand Traverse families can make the evening easier by agreeing on a route, setting expectations, and saving collected treats for an adult inspection at home. A meal or snack beforehand helps children resist eating along the way.

Young children need adult company. Older children going with friends should have a familiar route, a return time, and a way to contact home. Visit well-lit homes and accept treats at the doorway.

Safe Kids Worldwide recommends reflective details, flashlights, and costumes that fit. Use sidewalks, cross at corners, put phones away, and watch for turning or reversing vehicles. Drivers should slow down and stay alert.

At home, spread out the candy under good lighting. The FDA advises checking commercially wrapped treats for damaged packaging and unusual appearance. Throw away questionable items rather than tasting them.

Children's Health emphasizes allergies and choking hazards. Confirm ingredients, replace uncertain treats with known safe choices, and remove unsuitable candy, small toys, and wrappers from young children's reach.

The American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends carrying prescribed allergy medication and ensuring supervising adults understand the child's plan. Finish the evening by sorting favorites together and putting the remaining treats away.

Interlochen Concerto Finals Offer a Free November Music Outing

Interlochen Concerto Finals Offer a Free November Music Outing

Interlochen’s Concerto Competition Finals offer a free music outing on Sunday, November 1, at 1 p.m. Eastern. The official event listing places the performance in Corson Auditorium and says no tickets are required.

Arts Academy students will perform movements from classical and contemporary concertos. The announced disciplines include strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, percussion and voice, giving listeners several musical perspectives in one afternoon.

The program is listed for all audiences. New listeners can simply listen for a favorite sound, memorable phrase or change in energy; no background in classical music is needed to enjoy making those discoveries.

The campus address is 4000 J Maddy Parkway, Interlochen. Consult the venue guide and campus maps before traveling, since Interlochen has multiple performance spaces. Leave time to park and find Corson before the music starts.

For family groups, discuss quiet listening and leave flexibility afterward rather than guessing the running time. Anyone with access or seating questions should review Interlochen’s accessibility information and contact the venue in advance.

Recheck the event page before leaving home. For a November afternoon, the combination of student performances, an indoor auditorium and free admission makes this an easy concert to consider adding to the calendar. Save the date now.

Interlochen Jazz Students Bring a November Showcase Downtown

Interlochen Jazz Students Bring a November Showcase Downtown

Interlochen’s Jazz Showcase comes to City Opera House on Wednesday, November 4, at 7 p.m. The Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Combo will perform a program described as standards and contemporary charts.

The venue’s event page advertises $25 tickets and $10 tickets for students 18 and younger. Confirm the appropriate category, availability and final checkout total before arranging a group purchase.

This performance is downtown, rather than on Interlochen’s campus. The directions page gives the destination as 106 East Front Street, Traverse City, between Union and Cass streets.

If accessibility affects your visit, review the venue FAQ and call 231-941-8082 about the specific arrangement you need. The venue lists elevator access, accessible seating and assistive listening devices.

Make the concert the anchor of the evening, then decide whether to add a meal or time to talk afterward. Allow room for parking and finding the entrance before the performance begins.

For CherryBuzz readers, the showcase offers a straightforward midweek music plan beyond Halloween. Save the date, keep your ticket confirmation handy and recheck the official event page before leaving. You do not need a jazz background to listen closely and compare favorite moments with your companions. Agree on an arrival time with anyone meeting you there.
