Readers planning their November weekends can put the Friends of the Traverse Area District Library fall book sale on the calendar for November 6–8.

The event has a different format each day, making the choice of when to visit part of the plan.

A members’ preview opens the weekend, public shopping follows Saturday and a bag sale concludes the event Sunday.

Choose the day before choosing the books

The Friends’ announcement lists the Friday, November 6 preview from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for members, with membership sign-up available at the door.

Saturday’s public sale runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m..

For Sunday, the Friends advertise a noon start and a $5 fill-a-bag offer.

The library’s own Sunday event page places the sale in the McGuire Community Room at the Main Library, 610 Woodmere Avenue in Traverse City.

The two official pages differ on Sunday’s closing time: the Friends’ page says 4:30 p.m., while the library calendar says 5 p.m..

Until that difference is resolved, plan to finish before 4:30 or confirm the final time directly with the organizers.

Understand the listed prices

The Friends list hardcover books at $4, paperbacks at $2 and children’s books at $2.

They also advertise a half-price benefit for members across the weekend.

Ask how any membership discount applies to the Sunday bag offer rather than calculating a further discount yourself.

The library’s Sunday listing says visitors may bring a bag or purchase one there.

Confirm any bag-size rules at the sale before starting to fill it.

If several people are shopping together, agree in advance whether you are buying separately or sharing a budget.

Browse with a little direction

A short wish list can make a book sale easier to enjoy without narrowing every discovery to a specific title.

Think about a few subjects, authors or reading ages you hope to find.

Bring a note of books you already own if duplicate copies tend to follow you home.

For gift shopping, consider the recipient’s interests and check the condition before purchasing.

Take a moment to check titles before adding another copy to your stack.

For children, leave room to choose a book that catches their attention while keeping the spending limit clear.

There is no need to leave with a large stack for the visit to feel worthwhile.

Membership is a separate decision

The Friends’ sale page lists annual membership options and links to joining information.

Review those terms if you want the preview access or other member benefits.

Choose membership because the arrangement suits you, rather than assuming one visit requires it.

The Saturday public sale provides an option for visitors who do not attend the members-only preview.

The library’s Friends page also links information about the group and its activities for anyone who wants to learn more.

Plan the Woodmere visit

Use the Main Library address, not a branch-library destination, when arranging the trip.

Leave enough time to browse without pushing against the day’s closing time.

If access or carrying several purchases is a concern, ask staff about arrangements before the visit.

Check the sale announcement again close to November 6 for updates.

The immediate choice is simple: Friday preview, Saturday public sale or Sunday bag shopping, with the Sunday closing time confirmed before you travel.
