Oryana’s November Food Drive Supports Northwest Food Coalition
Food donations, register round-ups and a November 19 sales contribution offer three ways to help

Grand Traverse shoppers will have several ways to support local food assistance through Oryana Community Co-op this November.

The co-op has announced a November 16–22 food drive at both stores for Northwest Food Coalition, alongside register round-ups during the month and a November 19 contribution tied to sales.

For households planning holiday groceries, the dates offer an opportunity to connect an ordinary shopping trip with a community effort.

Three different ways to participate

The food drive accepts donations for the coalition, which Oryana describes as a regional network of food pantries, baby pantries and meal sites.

The announcement lists collection dates from November 16 at 8 a.m. through November 22 at 8 p.m.; those dates describe the drive, rather than continuous overnight store access.

Check the collection instructions at the store before dropping anything off.

A separate Groceries for Good announcement identifies Northwest Food Coalition as November’s recipient.

Shoppers can round up purchases at the registers throughout the month.

On Thursday, November 19, Oryana says it will donate 2% of sales for the day to the coalition.

These are separate parts of the campaign: donating food, adding a round-up and shopping on the contribution day do not require the same action.

Ask what is useful before filling a donation bag

The event announcement does not provide a detailed requested-food list.

Before purchasing items specifically for the drive, ask Oryana what the organizers need and how donations should be packaged.

That is particularly useful if you are coordinating a collection at work, in a neighborhood or among relatives.

Choose one person to confirm the instructions, then pass those details to everyone participating.

Avoid turning a general invitation to donate into an assumed list of accepted items.

If you plan to bring several bags or a larger collection, ask the store about the best way to deliver it.

Fit the effort into your own budget

Decide what contribution works for your household before shopping.

One person may prefer to add requested food to a regular grocery trip; another may choose a small round-up.

A household planning to shop November 19 can use the co-op’s announcement when deciding which errands to combine that day.

There is no need to organize a large collection for a contribution to be intentional.

If children are taking part, explain where the food is going and let them help with an appropriate task after the requested items have been confirmed.

Keep the focus on useful support rather than the size of a shopping bag.

Choose the right store

Oryana’s two grocery locations are 260 East Tenth Street and 3587 Marketplace Circle in Traverse City.

The drive announcement names both locations.

Check current hours and the collection setup at the store you intend to visit, especially if you are coordinating a drop-off with another person.

Do not leave a donation outside a closed building without directions from the organizer.

Keep the dates distinct

Put the November 16–22 collection window and November 19 sales-contribution day in separate calendar notes.

The round-up opportunity continues across November, according to Oryana’s announcement.

Review the official event pages before your visit for any updates or additional instructions.

For shoppers looking for a local way to contribute during the season, confirming the requested items and choosing one practical action is a clear place to begin.
