Traverse City's Downtown Halloween Walk is back on the calendar for Saturday, October 31, from 10–11:30 a.m.
The current organizer announcement confirms a return to Saturday morning after an earlier plan would have moved the event to a Thursday afternoon.
For families who saw the weekday announcement, this is the date to put into your October plans.
The Downtown Traverse City Association says community feedback showed the weekday format did not fit current school and work routines.
The free event is open to all ages and brings trick-or-treating to participating businesses across the downtown district.
Begin where it suits your family
The official event page describes a continuous strolling event with no single central starting point.
Families can begin at a participating business rather than reporting to a common check-in.
The listed area includes Front Street, State Street, Old Town, West Front, and surrounding side streets.
The Ticker's September 18 report says the association plans to post participating merchants before the event.
That report also describes east-to-west movement on Front Street's north side and west-to-east movement on its south side.
Recheck the organizer's final information rather than treating an older calendar listing as the complete route.
Cherry Buzz suggests picking a manageable starting area and a meeting point before the group begins walking.
Let children's pace determine how much of the district you cover rather than trying to collect something at every stop.
Plan the arrival
The organizer identifies street meters, the Old Town parking structure, and the Larry C. Hardy parking structure as parking options.
Its announcement recommends the Old Town deck and links to Traverse City Parking Services for current maps and rates.
Free event admission does not establish that a particular parking space is free, so check the payment rules for your chosen location.
Parking Services provides resources for parking maps, accessible spaces, bicycle parking, and payment questions.
If you need to clarify parking arrangements, its published contact number is 231-922-0241.
The event page also points to BATA's Bayline as a free ride into town and identifies the TART trail as another way to reach the district.
Before relying on transit, review the current route and return trip so the walk fits your family's whole morning.
Expect a shared downtown morning
The organizer warns that the Zombie Run will be underway during the beginning of the Halloween Walk.
Its guidance encourages visitors coming from south of downtown to use Eighth Street and avoid the race route.
The announcement also says Cass Street will be closed at Front Street between the north and south alleys, while Front Street remains open.
Plan crossings with that distinction in mind rather than assuming the entire downtown is closed to vehicles.
Cherry Buzz suggests leaving an arrival buffer and checking any updated traffic instructions before driving.
Keep the outing comfortable
Choose costumes that allow walking and layers, and decide ahead of time how the group will take a break if needed.
Ask participating merchants or the organizer about any specific access questions before the day.
You can plan a meal or shopping stop afterward, but confirm that business's hours separately.
As October 31 approaches, return to the official announcement for merchants, route updates, and event changes.
For families sorting through conflicting dates, the useful update is clear: the current plan is Saturday morning, October 31, with a 90-minute downtown trick-or-treating window. |

That’s fair, a photo from the walk would be lovely. We’ve labeled this one as an illustrative stock photograph so there’s no confusion.
