Halloween night in Traverse City has a seated jazz option on the calendar. The Rodney Whitaker Sextet is scheduled at The Alluvion on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with doors and bar opening at 7 p.m. and music beginning at 7:30.

The venue advertises general admission for all ages, with tickets at $30 in advance and $35 at the door. It describes this as a seated-style show, offering a different kind of evening for listeners who want to build their Halloween plans around a live performance.

A bassist and educator leads the ensemble

Whitaker’s own website identifies him as a jazz bassist and Michigan State University’s director of Jazz Studies. It also describes his work with the university’s Professors of Jazz, connecting his performing career with music education.

The concert listing names Rockelle Whitaker on vocals, Sarah Whitaker on drums, Alvin Paige on saxophone, Anthony Stanco on trumpet and Brendon Davis on piano alongside Rodney Whitaker on bass. That is the published lineup for the six-piece group.

The event page does not publish a set list. Treat the musicians and ensemble format as the confirmed attraction rather than expecting a particular recording to be performed. If Whitaker’s work is new to you, his website provides a starting point for exploring his music before the show.

Choose the ticket, then shape the evening

At the advertised advance rate, two admissions have a $60 base cost, calculated as two tickets at $30 each. Any checkout fees or purchases are separate from that calculation; Cherry Buzz has not confirmed the final ticket total.

The door price applies when tickets remain. Check the event’s booking link for availability instead of assuming that a published door option guarantees entry on the evening itself.

General admission also means that the word seated should not be read as a promise of a specific reserved chair. If a particular access arrangement is essential, contact the venue ahead of time and use the current show information when discussing your needs.

Agree on a meeting time with friends before buying, especially if your group is combining the concert with other Halloween activities. Decide which part of the evening is the priority and leave enough travel time to arrive before the music begins. Share the plan with everyone in your group before the day of the performance.

Know where the music happens

The Alluvion is on the second floor of Commongrounds at 414 East Eighth Street. The venue’s directions page explains access and nearby parking options, making it a useful companion to the ticket confirmation.

Plan a meal separately if you want dinner before the concert. A show listing with a bar-opening time does not establish an included dinner package. Keep any food stop comfortably ahead of the performance rather than making the arrival depend on a tightly timed restaurant visit.

If you intend to drink, arrange a sober ride in advance. Check the weather and your route before leaving, while relying on current conditions rather than a forecast assumed weeks ahead.

Save the ticket confirmation where you can find it and revisit the event page close to October 31. With the ensemble, timing and room format established, this is a clearly defined Halloween outing for anyone who would like the evening’s main event to be live jazz.

Dave ThompsonYeah, especially if you're bringing someone. The $30 advance price helps a little, but it still adds up.

Maria G.I like the idea of a seated show after handing out candy. Something different for Halloween.
