NMC Quick Start: October 12 Help for Future College Students
A Traverse City drop-in evening offers application support and Financial Aid 101

Northwestern Michigan College is offering an October 12 drop-in evening for people who want help taking the first steps toward college.

Quick Start runs Monday from 4–7 p.m., with check-in at the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center on the Front Street Campus in Traverse City.

The October session features Financial Aid 101 alongside assistance with enrollment questions.

NMC describes the event as an optional opportunity for people who are not yet admitted to learn about the college and stop in during the scheduled hours.

That makes this a timely date to share with a student beginning post-high-school plans or someone considering a return to education.

Start with your own questions

The Quick Start page identifies help with applications, college transcripts, placement testing, financial aid, dual enrollment, and Early College.

It also directs prospective students to information about housing, student life, the bookstore, and student success.

Cherry Buzz suggests writing down the two or three issues that most affect your decision before you arrive.

For one person, that might be choosing a certificate or degree; for another, it may be figuring out what prior credits mean for a new plan.

Bring those questions to staff rather than assuming every visitor needs the same sequence of steps.

The college provides a session sign-up link, so use it to review event details and check whether there are instructions relevant to your visit.

Locate the correct building

The Front Street Campus map places the Innovation Center at 1720 College Drive, building nine on the printable map.

The campus's main entrance is at Front Street and College Drive.

NMC's interactive map includes information about buildings, parking lots, accessible parking, and accessible entrances.

Check that information before leaving home, particularly if you need an entrance close to your destination.

The campus map also identifies Enrollment Services in the Tanis Building, a separate location from the event check-in.

For routine help outside the event, Quick Start's information page points visitors toward those offices.

Ask about the aid process

The college's financial aid instructions outline different steps for new, transfer, and continuing students.

They identify NMC's federal school code as 002302 and direct applicants to complete the appropriate FAFSA.

The page associates the 2026–2027 FAFSA with fall 2026, spring 2027, and summer 2027 enrollment.

It also warns transfer students that financial aid does not automatically transfer between schools.

Use Financial Aid 101 to ask which application year and follow-up steps match your intended start date.

An information session cannot establish your award amount, so ask how and when an individual determination will be communicated.

Leave with a next step

Cherry Buzz suggests finishing your visit with a written action list: what to submit, who to contact, and what still needs clarification.

If work or family responsibilities shape your schedule, make those constraints part of the conversation rather than leaving them until registration.

Ask how your intended program fits those limits and request the appropriate contact for questions the event staff cannot resolve.

NMC's admissions overview provides a starting point for checking the college's enrollment pathways.

If October 12 does not work, another Quick Start featuring Financial Aid 101 is listed for November 16.

For current event questions, contact admissions at 231-995-1054 or [email protected].

Recheck the session page before traveling, and use the evening to turn a broad college idea into a specific, documented next step.

We understand, a photo of NMC would have added useful context. We’ve labeled this one clearly so it isn’t mistaken for a photo of the event.
