Northwestern Michigan College has opened registration for its spring and summer 2027 semesters, giving Grand Traverse area students a reason to look beyond the current fall calendar.
Registration began October 21, according to the college’s academic calendar.
For students balancing work, family responsibilities and school, the useful next step is to turn a list of possible classes into a schedule that actually fits.
Start with the program, then choose classes
Before adding courses, review which requirements remain in your degree or certificate.
NMC’s registration checklist directs students to My Academic Plan, or MAP, where they can review their progress and identify what still needs to be completed.
That is a better starting point than choosing only by a convenient meeting time.
A class that looks appealing may serve a different requirement than expected, so bring questions about electives, prerequisites and transfer plans to an advisor.
The checklist also recommends reviewing the searchable class schedule before that conversation.
Make a short list of preferred sections and a second list of alternatives, especially when a particular meeting time is important to your work schedule.
Get help before a small obstacle becomes a delay
First-semester students are required to meet with an advisor, the college’s checklist states.
Other students can also use an advising appointment to discuss course choices and longer-term plans.
Contact the Advising Center at 231-995-1040 or [email protected] for help arranging that conversation.
Have your intended program, possible courses and specific questions ready so the appointment can focus on decisions rather than searching for basic information. |

If account access is a problem, resolve it before the day you intend to register.
Save your proposed schedule somewhere you can consult while checking sections, and include the time needed to travel between responsibilities.
An open space on a weekly calendar is not always enough space for a class once reading, projects and commuting are included.
Keep the dates in separate columns
NMC lists January 11, 2027, as the official spring semester start and December 3, 2026, as the spring payment due date.
Individual courses can have different meeting dates, so students should use their own detailed schedules rather than assuming every class follows the same pattern.
The summer calendar lists a May 10 start for the 12-week session and June 7 for the eight-week session.
Write down your actual course dates alongside your work and household commitments before treating the schedule as final.
Keep registration, payment and drop deadlines distinct; completing one step does not automatically settle the others.
Check the saved result
After registering, review the courses that appear in your student account and make sure the section, format and meeting information match what you intended.
For registration problems, NMC lists Records and Registration at 231-995-1049 and [email protected].
Use your NMC student email when contacting that office about your record.
If you need to change a course, check the deadline attached to that specific section before making the change.
For anyone considering a return to college, this opening is a useful prompt to ask questions now, while there is time to compare options and make a realistic plan.
Begin with the official calendar and registration checklist, then work with NMC staff on the details that depend on your own student record.

MAP can be confusing though
tom_62I had trouble telling which electives counted in MAP. An advisor cleared it up pretty quickly.
nice, glad NMC opened summer registration early
Megan R.Same here. It helps to have time to sort out summer classes around work.
