The Traverse City Food & Wine Festival is officially returning for its highly anticipated second annual run from August 19 to August 23, 2026. This multi-day culinary celebration is specifically designed to showcase the incredible agricultural diversity, award-winning winemakers, innovative craft distillers, and talented chefs that define Northern Michigan’s vibrant food scene. Whether you are a dedicated foodie, a wine enthusiast, or simply someone who loves great flavor, this festival offers an unforgettable taste of the region.
The festival kicks off on Wednesday, August 19, with the prestigious James Beard Foundation Dinner. This spectacular al fresco dining experience features a multi-course menu prepared by eight of Michigan’s own James Beard award finalists and nominees. Guests will enjoy world-class culinary dishes under the open sky, with the added bonus that event proceeds directly benefit the James Beard Foundation’s vital programs.
On August 20 and 21, the festival shifts its focus to culinary literature and storytelling with its captivating Writers Series. On Thursday, attendees can look forward to an intimate conversation with legendary food critic and author Ruth Reichl. The following day, Friday features Martin Sorge, the immensely talented winner of the Great American Baking Show. Both exclusive events promise deep insights into the food world alongside exceptional local refreshments.
The crown jewel of the entire weekend is undoubtedly The Grand Tasting, taking place on Saturday, August 22. This massive afternoon event serves as the ultimate showcase for regional talent. Visitors can watch live chef demonstrations, sample dozens of unique food bites, and explore a massive selection of over 100 locally crafted beers, spirits, and wines. It is a sensory journey through the unique terroir of the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas.
Throughout the five-day festival, a variety of other unique specialty dinners and interactive experiences are scheduled. Guests can embark on a scenic whiskey-tasting boat cruise, attend an exclusive documentary screening of Coldwater Kitchen paired with a curated dinner, or relax at casual outdoor vineyard cookouts. Because these events take place at various wineries and venues across downtown Traverse City and the surrounding peninsulas, attendees are highly encouraged to plan their transportation routes well in advance.
Tickets for individual events officially went on sale in late May via Traverse City Tourism. Demand has been incredibly high this year, and several signature events, such as the Mawby wine dinner with acclaimed chef Abra Berens, have already completely sold out. If you want to secure your spot at the remaining dinners, tastings, and seminars, you will need to act quickly.
To make the most of your festival weekend, organizers recommend booking your area accommodations early. The Grand Traverse Resort serves as a prime lodging partner, offering convenient packages that allow you to relax in style after a full day of tasting. Head over to the official Traverse City Tourism website today to browse the schedule, purchase your tickets, and start planning your ultimate summer getaway.
