Rail biking adventures in Grand Traverse

Wheels on Rails, Traverse City's premier rail biking adventure, is rolling out exciting enhancements for the 2026 season.

Located at 5843-5853 US-31 in Grawn, Michigan, this unique experience invites participants to pedal custom-made rail bikes along scenic, out-of-service tracks through the lush forests of southern Traverse City.

Founder Macie Keffer, who transformed a college project into this thriving venture, is committed to continuous improvement.

"We've introduced pedal-assist motors to make the journey more accessible," Keffer shared.

"Our goal is to enhance the experience each year."

These upgrades aim to accommodate a broader range of abilities, ensuring that more people can enjoy the adventure.

Keffer emphasized the family-friendly nature of the activity, noting that it's a safe, non-alcoholic option amidst the region's many wineries.

"We've welcomed riders of all abilities," she said.

"It's a great way to create lasting memories with loved ones."

Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, Keffer expressed gratitude for the community's support.

"I didn't grow up here, but Traverse City has truly embraced me," she remarked.

"I'm thankful to contribute to the area's appeal with my small business."

With the 2026 calendar now open for reservations, Wheels on Rails encourages guests to book in advance due to high demand.

For more information or to schedule a tour, visit their official website or call (231) 714-0656.
